Electric Drill Race

The so called Akkuschrauberrennen is a design and engineering competition between international design universities. Every two years teams develop vehicles that are powered by an electric drill to race against each other. Additionally, every competition has a topic with specific guidelines. In our case the load-bearing middle part had to  be 3D printed and 50cm long. Our team was lucky to have the German aerospace center (DLR) as a sponsor to print the part out of  aluminium.
Our approach was to learn from previous races and vehicles. In order to fix the issue of tipping over we focused on developing a tilt steering. With a top speed of 28,4km/h we made 3rd place. It was an intense project from scratch on, with lots of ups and downs, many hours in the metal workshop and a successful race in the end.
